Barbara Musser

Barbara Musser, Founder and CEO

The daughter of a corporate gypsy and artist, Barbara was always the new girl in town, and never lived any place long enough to feel like she fit in.  She spent much of her life wondering where she belonged and what she was here to do this time around.

Barbara continued the gypsy life after college ~ following her dreams and inspirations, hitching her wagon to stars and moving a lot. The longest she ever lived in one home was 10 years. A common thread that ran through it all was her passion for learning and then sharing that with everyone around her who would listen.

She got an MBA and became a training and development consultant, which involved lots more travel. She taught yoga, meditation and visualization at the Preventive Medicine Research Institute and was a Challenge Day leader and facilitator of the Love, Intimacy and Sexuality workshops produced by the Human Awareness Institute, traveling the world to teach. She studied energy medicine and combined that with coaching to help women in business to live their dreams.

Another thread was breast cancer. On her 37th birthday, Barbara heard the words, “You have breast cancer”, which changed everything in a moment.  As a sex educator and workshop facilitator for 20+ years, she has supported many women and their partners and families along the breast cancer journey; interviewed hundreds of women about their experiences and needs; worked with support groups on the subject of sexuality and intimacy; presented to tumor boards and interviewed many surgeons, plastic surgeons and oncologists about the subject. She has designed and facilitated many retreats for women with breast cancer; couples; and partners of women with breast cancer.

In 2010 a dear friend undergoing her second breast cancer said, “I think this is your work, helping women remember who they are.” That was when all the threads came together to create Sexy After Cancer. Her work and ideas have turned Barbara into a Thought Leader in the world of life after cancer. She is a popular speaker on sexuality and intimacy at the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, Healing Journeys, San Francisco State University, Good Vibrations, C4YW, and Breast Cancer Connections, among others. Barbara is a member of AASECT, the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists.

Her book, Sexy After Cancer ~ Meeting Your Inner Aphrodite on the Breast Cancer Journey, has just been published. There is already a positive buzz for this book.

Barbara blogs for several national breast cancer organizations including The Pink Fund, The Pink Paper, Breast Cancer Answers, The Plum and Breast Cancer Wellness magazine. She is working on her second book.

She has a big heart and a big vision and sees herself as the evolution of Oprah and Dr. Ruth.  One day soon she’ll have a TV show!
